On 29th April a house on Gata Residencial was conned by the "gas inspectors"
Last Friday (29th April) afternoon a house on Gata Residencial was visited by some men saying they were gas inspectors. The men showed them their paper credentials and all appeared above board however the owners were not happy about allowing them access to their home as the men were not from Repsol or any other named company. The inspectors were VERY insistent saying that they had been sent by the government and that, by law, they had to visit all houses to change the gas valves. When asked why they had not previously advised the owners by telephone of their pending visit they claimed that they had tried but the owners had not been at home. After much persistence the owners eventually allowed them access and the men changed all of the gas valves charging over ยค200 for the service. They paid by credit card and were given a receipt and some other paperwork. However they quickly discovered a leak caused by the changing of the valves and when they tried to get in touch with the company again by phone it appears that the number they had been given was a fax. Unable to track the men down anywhere on Gata Residencial they called in another independent expert to fix the leak. Yesterday they went to the bank to try and cancel the payment made on their card and they were told they couldn't because they had signed for it. The bank has now advised them to go to the Guardia Civil to denounce this company for the persistence that they showed in practically demanding access to the home. Of course it is up to the individual how they want to handle a situation like this but it is worth just being aware that this team of men are on the prowl and if you are worried about any of your gas installations it is always best to contact Repsol or someone afiliated with them with regard to inspections and repairs.
